Chief Industries
The Chief Industries project focused on creating a sophisticated, highly functional workplace that aligned seamlessly with the architectural vision developed by Holland Basham Architects. Eakes worked closely with the design team to furnish a variety of spaces throughout the facility, balancing aesthetics, performance, and scalability for a project of significant size and complexity.
To achieve this vision, Eakes partnered with manufacturers including Steelcase, OFS, Source, Enwork, Global, Hi5, Grand Rapids, and Stylex. Key product selections included Steelcase Answer workstations, Everwall architectural walls, Slim Leg desks with Currency desking, Gesture and Amia Airback task seating, and Chord boardroom chairs. Additional furnishings included OFS Coact booths and Staks storage, Enwork Equilibrium boardroom tables, Source Botte conference seating, Global Drift guest seating, Grand Rapids seating and stools, Stylex Oko chairs, and Steelcase Ensemble reception and Belle lounge furnishings.
One of the project's greatest challenges was coordinating furniture finishes with the detailed interior design. Custom laminates and Wilsonart Brazillewood were utilized in areas where standard finish options did not achieve the desired look. Significant attention was given to ensuring that every furniture selection complemented the building's architectural details and design intent, creating a cohesive environment that felt appropriately scaled and integrated throughout the space.
Steelcase served as the primary furniture partner due to its extensive product research, planning resources, and project support capabilities. This level of partnership helped streamline the process and ensured a smooth execution for a project of this magnitude.
The most rewarding moment was seeing the completed space in action and recognizing the impact it would have on Chief Industries' employees and visitors. What began as a vision on paper had become a cohesive, functional environment that supports collaboration, productivity, and day-to-day operations. Watching the carefully selected furniture, finishes, and design elements come together successfully demonstrated how thoughtful planning and execution can transform a workplace experience.
